Name Game

15

Many people know we are not revealing the baby’s name until he is born. We have it all picked out, even bought letters to hang on the wall (which are not hanging yet… so don’t think you can look in our windows), but we are keeping the name to ourselves. A lot of people are fine with this but there are a handful that we are driving nuts, including the people I work with. So I decided to have a little fun with it and we have a pool going at work. Just incase you want to play along, here are the clues!

Full Moon Hike

2

For some time now we’ve wanted to do a night hike during a full moon, well last night was the night. With a couple good friends that have night hiked with us before, we met at the trailhead a little before 10:00pm. Thankfully, we made it to the top of Wachusett Mountain without running into any wildlife (phew…). Eric of course brought his camera and took some time taking pictures on the summit. It was a nice relaxing hike on one of the last nights of summer, we finally made it down around 12:30am.

Here’s a couple pictures and of course an update of the baby belly that is growing by leaps and bounds, can’t believe only one more month! Still feeling good, we kid around and say next full moon we should go for a hike, its only a few days before our due date and rumor has it, full moons put women into labor, haha!

Buying for baby…

0

There is so much to buy for the baby in preparation for his arrival, it has been quite overwhelming. However with help from family and friends we have started getting the essentials and started a registry for those that can’t wait to buy something for baby to be. Even Rusty got in on the action!

A few items Rusty bought baby.

Here is where Baby Darlington is registered:

Fun at work

1

So for those that don’t know, I work in a small office of women (with exception to my boss) who are all already proud moms. Similar to announcing with Eric’s family I wanted to do something fun and drag out the announcement as long as possible. I love making cupcakes and was excited when I found a recipe for frosting stuffed cupcakes where I could dye the inside color pink or blue. Although the cupcakes weren’t sliced into as delicately as the cake, they were actually squashed into by a couple coworkers who couldn’t wait to find out, it was fun to get a little creative.

And inside was blue frosting!

A Tribute

I’m sad to say that a little over a week ago my grandmother, Dorothy Halchuk, passed away. I write this post in her memory. She was a great woman and will never be forgotten. From her genuine personality to her laugh that could get a whole room smiling. She was a strong woman that raised a wonderful family and will always be a role model for me.

I must admit that I expected the gathering in Grandma’s memory to be sad as many times losing a family member can be, but there was something upbeat about getting together for Grandma, something that made me think she was there with us telling us not to cry but to laugh and celebrate the life she lived. Between the pictures of her that captured her laugh, to the pictures of her family and friends throughout her life; it was an inspirational experience.  There were some great pictures of her when she was younger, and wow Grandma, you were a knockout!

I think the whole experience was a wake up call to how precious life is, how valuable family is, and the circle of life. As I said my goodbyes to Grandma I could feel her smiling down on me and our child-to-be telling me everything will be just fine. Grandma, thank you for everything, you will be truly missed.

Below are a couple of pictures of Grandma with her youngest great grandchild, Erin. Thank you Sheldon for sharing the pictures that definitely show how loving Grandma was.

Surviving the First Trimester

1

So we’ve made it to the second trimester but not without a couple bumps in the road. I took notes along the way and here are a couple to share.

After having the positive pregnancy test there were many emotions stirring but no symptoms of being pregnant. I went downhill skiing and hiked 8,000 feet in Tahoe feeling just fine. But soon enough, around 6 weeks I woke up with nausea and realized there was something definitely going on! The nausea came and went, thankfully no vomiting, and no problem at work (for those that know my job, I was VERY lucky to not get nauseous at work). At 7 weeks I gave up my morning coffee, just the smell of it made me want to gag. However I did find something I loved… CHEESE! Macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, string cheese, any cheese and I was doing great. After eating macaroni and cheese 3 days in a row for lunch my coworkers were a little suspicious! But luckily I broke the news before they could question me further! And lucky me, an overnight trip to Vermont had us at a cheese factory, taste testing and me buying 6 BLOCKS of cheese!!!

Around 10 weeks Eric and I had a pre-planned trip to St. Lucia. Not sure if it was the sun and warm winds but my nausea disappeared and I hiked 2 Pitons (St. Lucia’s version of mountains), even one with ropes! Eric said I was smiling the whole hike, I think it was the rush of being 2 months pregnant and knowing I could still do the things I loved most! When we returned from vacation I was weary the nausea would return and I would have to go back to St. Lucia but I’m sad to say (for vacationing sake) that the nausea has stayed away and I’m back to my old self. Since then not much else to report. I haven’t gained any weight… yet… I’m sure it’s just a matter of time now that my appetite is back. I continue to hike Wachusett 3-5 times a week and we are planning a trip up to the White Mountains soon, hoping to stay active throughout the pregnancy!

That heart beat has a home…

Yesterday we had our first ultrasound. It is hard to describe how much we were both in awe of the images we saw. From the first time the baby’s face was captured on screen to seeing it kick it’s feet up and move it’s arms. At one point I sneezed and I think the baby did a somersalt. How amazing to finally see the little miracle that is growing within! And it already looks like a beautiful baby! Too early to know the sex though, another 6 weeks or so and we should know!

Here are a few of the images (head to the left side of the image, feet to the right side) the wonderful ultrasound technician gave us, she was great, constantly saying “oh, how cute!” But she probably says that with them all, huh? But we’ll pretend ours was extra cute!

Below is my favorite image, if you look close you can see little hands by the face and the legs are crossed with a little foot showing! The second image is one of the feet kicking and you can see the little toes! I say soccer player, Eric says hiker…

Below is Eric’s favorite image. We could see the baby opening and closing his/her mouth and the ultrasound tech was able to capture mouth wide open! Eric said the baby was laughing at all the poking and prodding going on. Or maybe we’ll have a singer!!!
